Al-Samarqandi was the father-in-law of the celebrated Hanafi jurist al-Kasani, who composed a commentary on the Tuhfa. His daughter Fatimah was a Faqeehah (woman-scholar of Islamic Jurisprudence), so knowledgeable that she would issue fatwas.
