We live in a time when man has moved away from the commandments requiring adherence to moral and ethical principles, a time in which God’s laws are misused by leaders to deceive and mislead people. The author feels called to awaken people from their slumber so they may open their hearts to a better reading and understanding of the true meaning of God’s words in the light of the Qur’an. Many Muslims have stopped short of seeing this light for many reasons: 1) People exhibit cowardice and laziness in using their intellect to search and seek proofs and facts. 2) Most, if not all, of the Hadith books were collected by writers not contemporary to the Prophet and whose native tongues are other than Arabic. 3) Clergy and parents indoctrinate those under their care to believe what they think is right, leading to a kind of tribal faith rather than pure faith. 4) Man is naturally infatuated by praise, exaggeration and stories of miracles. This leads to a straying from the truth. 5) The calligraphy and punctuation of the Qur’an are not the standards taught in today’s schools. 6) The sequence of the verses is not chronological with revelation, which obscures an understanding of the text. 7) It is falsely claimed that it is taboo to change, discuss or even question the compilation. In this book of selected verses from the Qur’an, the author presents his translation of those verses in an attempt to shed light on some controversial issues facing Muslim and non-Muslim communities all over the world.
