A translation to English of '‘Tafheem al-Qur'an al-Azim’ by M. Faruk Zein.

New readers of the Holy Qur'an may be confused by the lack of indexing and subjects' partitioning as is usual with other books. Indeed, they will find civil laws entwined with calls for belief and glimpses of the transcendental, as well as daily ethics and history of perished nations.

Readers can easily miss the significance of this purposeful interlace; instead, experiencing great perplexity as they look at the seemingly dislodged articulations of meaning, thought the ur'an is far from it, as was evident from its engulfing impact on the first Muslim community who were masters of the original Arabic language, and their minds were clear of preconceptions and prejudice.

There have been attempts in the last centuries by some orientalists to read and translate the Qur'an, but because of their oft-prevailing preconceptions, they failed to grasp it objectively. Some even attempted to reconstruct the verses and chapters of the Qur'an according to the dates of their revelation, expecting to make it easier to understand.

However, the problem is not limited to amateurs and orientalists. It extends to many Muslim readers who often miss the significance of the order of the Qur'an's chapters and verses. Many miss the true meaning of the subjects around which each chapter revolves, although they might have learnt and recited the who Qur'an by heart.

This book is an attempt at remedying the above, by helping the reader of the Holy Qur'an to clearly understand its chapters and appreciate their tight intercorrelation.
