A prominent Palestinian historian, Nicola Ziadeh, was born in Damascus, where his father worked. He grew up in Nazareth and Jenin and graduated from the Arab College in Jerusalem. He worked in education before leaving for Britain with a scholarship to study ancient history at the University of London, graduating with a BA in 1939, and returned to Palestine to teach history at the Arab College in Jerusalem. After receiving his Ph.D. from the University of London in 1950, Ziadeh settled in Beirut to teach at the American University and supervise doctoral theses at Saint Joseph University. Following retirement, he taught at the Lebanese University and the University of Jordan and left us with hundreds of essays and studies and close to forty books.
