Translated to Arabic, «War of the End of the World » (Spanish: La guerra del fin del mundo), a novel by Nobel Prize-winning Peruvian author Mario Vargas Llosa (b. 1936). Set in nineteenth century Brazil, and based on a real episode in Brazilian history, this novel is the story of an apocalyptic movement led by a mysterious prophet to establish another republic: Canudos, whose citizens are all the damned of the earth, the prostitutes, bandits and beggars who flee to the Brazilian frontier.
